I often get asked how to finish a wood stock without spending hours on it.
I sand the stock to 320 grit wipe it down good and then spray it with a lacquer auto finish in a spray can. I apply it light and give it several coats wiping it with fine steel wool between coats. Make sure the finish is dry before spraying on another coat.
This finish should not be confused with an oil rubbed finish but on many inexpensive firearms the customer only wants the stock to look good and protect the wood without breaking the bank.
