"It’s not a waste of time if you decide you didn’t like what you were doing. That was your goal at the time. You are allowed to change your mind."

::: ::: :::

"There are times when we are lost, confused and seek guidance. These are times when either we are experiencing a life changing event or extremely challenging obstacle, including feeling that we do not have what it takes. Some turn to friends and family for support, others turn to religious and spiritual support. Often than not, our thoughts are driven very much by our desire and the strength to execute these thoughts corresponds to the intensity of our desire.

“I feel like quitting my job, should I?” I’d heard this at least 20 times by now. My question is

“What do you really want?”

If you have a firm and strong answer to my question, you have the answer to your question.

If the answer to my question is “Er”, “I’m not sure” or “I just want to do something and see what happens”, my answer to your question is:

Then, does it matter?

What is it that you truly want? This something is going to keep you pushing on and keep you working till 2 am in the morning and wake you up at 4 am, It’ll tell you that it is not time to give up. It’ll tell you that there are responsibilities that you are shouldering. It reminds you of your principles, your values and who you really are. It’ll tell you to get right up when those cr--- hit you hard in the face. It’s like a recorder repeating itself that at the end of the road, the pain will subside.

I’m not saying it’s going to be easy and quick. What I’m saying is, giving up is easy but the pain ain’t going away just because you give up. Besides your loved ones, nobody cares about either your pain or you giving up or whatever happens to you. People care only when they are interested in you. People care when you are of value. People care when you are successful.

So if somebody is telling you to get the **** out and give up your dream, why on earth would you listen to that? Is that somebody genuinely concern about your dream or what is going to happen to you?

I’m not telling you to shun people. I’m simply telling you, you can get perspectives but ultimately you are responsible for your decision. You are what you are today because of the decision you made previously. You are what you are in future because of the decision you make today.

If you don’t know what you really want, get yourself some private time. Look inside yourself 5 years, 10 years, 20 years down the road.

What are you doing?

Are you a proud father of 2 kids?

Are you a successful and respected educator?

Are you a knowledgeable expert in your own field?

Are you financially secured?

Are you an active volunteer?

Are you an inspiration to your employees?

Are you cherishing your loved ones?

After you have identified what you really want, ask yourself, what have you been doing to work towards that? Are you spending time doing things that move you closer to what you want? What should you be focusing on?

“My boss is terrible and my work environment is unhealthy.”

Why focus on things that you have no control over instead of things that is within your control? Housing price, car prices etc. What are the chances of having these things changed after you expressed your dissatisfaction?

Why not focus on your perspectives, your mentality, your effort, your goals, your priorities and your work plan?

Let me repeat this: You are what you are today because of the decision you made previously. You are the only thing on earth that decides your future - not the world, not your parents, not the government, not your friends. You are what you are in the future because of the decisions you make today.

So, what do you really want?" - Unknown
