STOCK MARKET GAME
Business Studies is happy to sponsor an investment game for Penn Foster College students who are interested in learning more about the stock market without risking your own money.
In this simulation you will be provided with a beginning balance, which you can invest in companies listed on major stock market exchanges. The web site we have chosen is
http://howthemarketworks.com allows you to make trades to buy and sell stocks but also provides you with tools to research stocks and help you learn more about investing.
If you have any questions concerning the game or how to participate, feel free to post your questions on this discussion. Our faculty will be monitoring this discussion.
The game officially starts on September 1 and runs through September 30th. You must register any time before September 1. Once the game starts no further registrations will be accepted. You will have the opportunity to practice once you have registered, so you are ready when the game starts.
The purpose of the game is to provide you with an enjoyable educational learning experience.

Stock Market Game Rules
- Contest runs from September 1, 2016 through September 30th, 2016.
- The Stock market game is open to all active Penn Foster College students.
- All students will be given $100,000 in virtual game money to invest during the competition.
- You must have at least $50,000 of your game money invested in the virtual stock market by end of the game.
- The maximum investment in any one stock or fund is $25,000.
- The share price for any stock or fund must be at least $4 or higher.
- Mutual fund purchases are not allowed for our contests. Only Stocks and Exchange Traded Funds (ETF’s) transactions will be allowed.
- The game will deduct a $10 commission fee from your portfolio for every trade you make.
- You can make as many trades as you would like to during the competition period.
- All students must abide by the rules established by Penn Foster.
- The top 3 students with the most money in their portfolio at the end of the competition period, who meet game rule requirements, will be declared the first, second and third place finishers.
- All decisions made by Penn Foster will be final.

Practice for One Week
The HowtheMarketWorks.com is available for practice trading now to get ready for the competition. Make sure you are practicing using your practice portfolio. The actual contest begins September 1 and runs through September 30th. I encourage you to use the time period prior to the game to fully understand the game mechanics, try some strategies, and get a feel for the market as it is now.

Does the system use real stock quotes?
Yes, all of the quotes are real. Some are real-time and some are delayed 15-20 minutes.
What time do the markets open?
The markets are normally open 9:30am-4pm Eastern time Monday-Friday, except on market holidays.
Can I trade after the market closes?
You can place orders after the market closes, but they will not execute until 9:30 in the morning on the next business day (when the market opens).

How do I change my password?
Click on your username at the top of the screen to open the Profile page. Here you
can change your password, add details to your account, and even upload an
avatar.
