Penn Foster Awarded 2016 Military Friendly® School Designation

School recognized for providing affordable, quality education and career training for the military for more than 90 years.

SCRANTON, PA (December 11, 2015) — Penn Foster, Inc., a leader in career-focused online and blended education, was recently awarded the 2016 Military Friendly® School designation by Victory Media. Victory Media, a veteran-owned business and publisher of G.I. Jobs and the Guide to Military Schools, is the originator of Military Friendly® education and career resources for veterans and their families. This is the third year Penn Foster has been designated a Military Friendly® post-secondary school, specifically in the online-only category. Penn Foster was one of 38 online-only post-secondary schools awarded the 2016 Military Friendly® School designation.

“We are honored to be recognized as a Military Friendly designated school, as we actively strive to do all we can to serve military families, and provide them with the quality education they deserve,” said Mark Slayton, senior vice president, customer relationship management at Penn Foster. “We have a dedicated team that works exclusively to ensure each of our students who have enlisted, are on active duty, or are of veteran status have the resources and support they need to succeed and thrive in our learning environment. Spouses of our military students are eligible to benefit from our military student support network as well. Military students can benefit from our affordable, self-paced, flexible education model, and our aim is to continue to actively expand upon the resources for Penn Foster military students.”

Victory Media’s Military Friendly® ratings recognize colleges and companies with leading programs for veterans, members of the Armed Forces leaving military service and military spouses. This year’s lists highlight more than 1,400 Military Friendly® Schools and 220 Military Friendly® Employers exhibiting best practices in support of military students and employees, respectively. Institutions of higher learning competed for the title by completing an extensive survey covering ten indicators of success, including: flexibility for military students, graduation and employment outcomes, and military spouse policies.

The designated higher-education institutions have been recognized for exhibiting leading practices in recruiting and supporting post-military students. Penn Foster accepts MyCAA benefits for spouses of active duty military members, as well as VA benefits for military veterans, primarily the GI Bill. Penn Foster also has a special section of its online community dedicated to the military.

“We live in an era when the value of military service in the professional world is unquestioned and unmatched,” said Chris Hale, a Navy veteran and chairman and co-founder of Victory Media. “Veterans are graduates of the premier training institution in the world, but they need a consistent and predictable standard that lets them make good choices for major life decisions like where to work or where to enroll in school. The mission of Military Friendly® is to create maximum professional opportunity for them and other members of the military community.”
